Who can drive a Muchacha vehicle.
A premium fleet asks more of the people behind the wheel. The requirements below aren’t designed to be difficult. They exist because the cars cost more, the standard is higher, and the experience only works when both sides hold their end.
If you meet the requirements, the process takes minutes. If you don’t, we’ll tell you before you’ve paid a cent.
The Short Version
You must be at least [25] years old, hold a full driver’s licence, and have held it for at least [two years]. No major driving offences in the past three years. Original documents only. A credit card in the driver’s name for the security deposit.
If that’s all true, you’re cleared to book. The detail follows.
Age
Standard fleet — minimum age 25.
Drivers aged 25 to 70 with a clean record qualify for the full fleet at standard rates.
Premium and Performance vehicles — minimum age 30.
A small number of vehicles in the fleet — flagged on the vehicle page — are restricted to drivers 30 and over. This applies to high-output sports vehicles and the top tier of our SUV and grand-tourer line.
Drivers 21–24.
Available for the standard fleet only, with a young driver fee of [$XX per day]. Premium and Performance vehicles are not available.
Drivers under 21.
Not eligible. This is firm.
Drivers over 70.
Eligible with a current medical certificate confirming fitness to drive, in line with WA Department of Transport requirements.
Identification
At pick-up, you’ll need to present:
- Driver’s licence — original, full, current.
- One additional photo ID — passport, national ID, or government-issued photo card.
- A credit card in the primary driver’s name — for the security deposit.
The name on the licence, the photo ID, the credit card, and the booking must all match. We can’t accept a deposit on a card belonging to someone other than the driver.
Security deposit
A refundable security deposit is held against the vehicle for the duration of the rental.
- Standard fleet — [$0,000]
- Premium fleet — [$0,000]
- Performance fleet — [$0,000]
Held on a credit card only. Debit cards, prepaid cards, and digital wallets are not accepted for the deposit. The hold is released within five business days of return, subject to vehicle inspection and any outstanding tolls or infringements.
Authorised drivers
Only drivers named on the rental agreement may drive the vehicle. Adding an additional driver costs [$XX per day] and requires the same documentation and verification as the primary driver. The additional driver must be present at handover.
Driving the vehicle while not named on the agreement voids the rental’s protection plan and shifts full liability to the renter.
What this means in practice
If you’re a [25]-year-old resident with a full WA licence, a clean record, and a credit card, you’ll be on the road within minutes of arriving at the showroom. Most renters are.
If you’re under 25, on a probationary licence, or visiting from overseas with a non-English licence, the requirements above apply — but none of them are barriers if you arrive prepared.
License
You must hold a full driver’s licence valid at the time of pick-up. Probationary licences (P1, P2, or interstate equivalents) are not accepted on any vehicle in the fleet.
Western Australian residents.
A full WA driver’s licence held for at least two years.
Other Australian states and territories.
A full state or territory licence held for at least two years. Visiting interstate drivers are welcome on the full fleet.
Overseas visitors.
A full overseas driver’s licence held for at least two years. Tourists and temporary visa holders may drive in WA on a valid overseas licence.
If your licence is not printed in English, you must present an International Driving Permit (IDP) alongside your original licence. The IDP is a translation, not a standalone document — it is only valid when produced together with your home licence.
Documents accepted.
Original, physical driver’s licences only. Digital licences, scanned copies, photos, and expired licences are not accepted, regardless of jurisdiction.
Driving record
The following will disqualify a booking: A major driving offence in the past three years (DUI, reckless driving, dangerous driving, driving while disqualified or suspended). A current licence suspension or disqualification, anywhere in the world. Three or more at-fault incidents in the past three years. An open insurance claim related to a previous rental.
We run a record check at the verification step. If something on your record will be a problem, we’d rather flag it before you commit to a booking than after.
